I wanted to sign up to lead a trip next year, I love to paddle on New Years Day, and I figured, why wait?

LGP preferred, but it's gotta be somewhere where the water is running, right? So, the venue is TBD, but there will be a trip, and I'd like to start it at noon. It may be winter by then, so we'd best let the day warm up a little. I hope to see you on New Years so we can all get the year started on the right stroke.

Anytime I paddle, there's about half a chance I'll swim. So, any of you out there coveting that first swim award, you better come and beat me to it! (Please)

Maybe someone can check the bridge gauge for the Lower Gunpowder the day before if there is a chance it is runnable.

The bridge isn't too far from me. I can get a peek on the way home from work (the long way). Will post on the 31st between 1600 and 1800. Santa brought me a drytop so I may be in...temp dependant.

1.5 feet  and all the tubes under the bridge are clear so the water level will not be very accurate

I think LGP is our best bet unless we want to drive a few hours. LGP was at 8" this afternoon. I was thinking about Codorus Creek, but the level there is dropping too, and I'd just as soon do my scraping local. Unless J. Cagg reports we are below zero tomorrow, let's stick with the Lower Gunpowder, meeting at noon at Jones Road.

Directions:
Take your best route to I-95 and White Marsh Blvd., Rt 43.
Go east on White Marsh Blvd, Rt 43, for less than a mile, then bear right onto the ramp for Pulaski Hwy, Rt 40, East.
Go 3.7 miles on Rt. 40, then turn left onto Jones Rd.
Go about 0.1 miles and park in dirt lot on the left of Jones Rd.
Look for paddlers and get ready to shuttle.

Shoot me an email if you have questions, or look me up in the directory and give me a call. Have a safe and happy New Year, and start it off right, on the river!

@ 16:55 on 12/31/12 at the river left guage. 38 degrees with overcast skies. Light wind due sse of little consequence. Visual level of about 1 inch above the first line (0).

I will be unable to attend, but I wish you all wet paddles and big smiles.

Thanks Chip for kicking the GBCC season off with a great New Year's Day trip on the LGP.

The water level was a surprising 5 inches and the weather was pleasant.

Hope the rest of the year is as much fun,

bill.

Jason, there were a dozen or more paddlers out at Jones Road. Two or more groups formed, with several Club members among the groups. Bill and I, along with 6 others were in the trailing group.

Everyone had a breakthrough moment: it was all of our first time paddling in 2013!

The weather turned out pretty decent, temps in the 40s and not a drop of precip, although it was overcast.

In an effort to retain the first swim award, I collided with Eamen (spelling?) in a minor rapid and tipped out of my canoe. That was around 3pm. I understand there were other groups paddling earlier, and we know there were folks ahead of us on the Lower, so it is possible somebody beat me to first swim. We'll have to wait until all reports are in before we know if 1/1 at 3pm was good enough to win the award for the second consecutive year.

Bill, I enjoyed hanging out with you guys--it's always a pleasure.
