In loving memory of Peter C. VanGiesen.

Originally posted by Art Clark on the CCC Board.-
Our friend and fellow kayaker Pete VanGiesen passed away of a failed heart while asleep at his residence early Sunday morning June 12th 2011. No better friend or more dedicated kayaking partner ever dipped a blade in the water. Those of us who knew him will miss him dearly, those who did not will, no doubt, share in the zest for life and joy of paddling Pete passed on to his friends simply by floating with us.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 15 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Etzweiler’s Funeral Home 1111 East Market Street York, Pa.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 16 2011 at 10:30am at Etzweiler’s Funeral Home 1111 East Market Street York, Pa.
“The highways we’ve traveled,
the rivers we’ve paddled
Rewarding or dull
as they move us and flow
Take us to places,
unique hidden spaces
we’ve shared on the rivers
wherever we go.
Weekends of getaways,
Rain or sunshine
The run of the rivers
the rivers we’ve tried
When simply the paddling
makes running them fine
no matter the direction
no matter how high …”

I'm saddened to hear this. Pete was a solid paddler and a wonderful guy. His big smile and happy demeanor will be sorely missed.

Pete would spend all day ply boatn down the river and come off with a smile. Will miss being on the river with him.
