Is this the advanced swift water rescue class or basic swift water rescue?

This is the two day ACA level 4 Swiftwater Rescue Class.  Class II paddling skills are a prerequisite.

Modest Charge:  I have to pay (in advance) $20.00 per instructor to the American Canoe Association for insurance.  This is a National Park Service (NPS) requirement for instructing in the C&O Canal park.  I usually have one instructor in addition to myself so that's $40.00 -- that would need to be divided up between participants.  Usually it comes to $5.00 to $8:00 per person and I ask that participants belong to one of the participating clubs.  The NPS also requires that any money transactions take place in advance and not in the Park.

I know I've been out of the loop for a while, but didn't the club have a policy of covering any cost related to safety classes? Or did that change?

My girlfriend and I are interested in taking the course, but I have a couple questions. Are there any other requirements for this class other than previous class II paddling experience? Also, do you require students to provide their own safety gear?

Furthermore, she's a comfortable I-II boater and I'm a comfortable II-III boater. We've both done the Violette's lock section of the Potomac a few times so we are familiar with the area. Please let me know if there are any other requirements you have for this specific class.

Thanks,
Jason

If you're canoeists, you will need boats, paddles lifejackets & hat or helmet; if you are kayakers, you will need boats, paddles, lifejackets, sprayskirts, & helmets.  You will also need some of your favorite beverage (non-alcoholic of course), lunch and sunscreen.  In addition, you should bring whatever paddling gear you would normally take on a summer river trip and whatever rescue gear you already have (i.e don't go out buying rescue stuff prior to the class; you might learn something in the class that would influence your choices).

Is this class still on?
Was wondering where to meet and what time?
Sorry I'm not familiar with the area there. I'm usually lost when anywhere near DC, and thats with a gps.
Thank You,
Jim

I just sent an E-mail to those that have signed up here.  I'm going through my old E-mails to see if I've missed anyone.  Contact me ASAP if you want to participate.

Learned two new things during the Swiftwater Rescue class on Sunday. First, make sure your boat is secure when you eat lunch. Second, when you're floating down the river on your back lookin for your boat is not the time to realize that your paddle was not in your boat where it is normally.
