Board Meeting Minutes

August 9, 2010

 

Present:  Kara Brown, Michael Quinn, Tony Allred, Angela Genito, Chip Walsh, Bill Offutt, Marty Levine, John Kemper, Art Wolf

Absent:  Marycarol Skaggs, Steve Forian,

 

Call to Order:  7:15 PM

 

Secretary’s Report, Presented by Kara for Marycarol:  Minutes of April 12, 2010 approved

 

Treasurer’s Report,  Michael Quinn:  Presented to Board and approved.

 

Membership/Roster, Angela Genito:  211 members thus far this year.  Roster mailed out.  Kara did update.

 

Safety, Tony Allred:  Report of June Safety class which was held on the Chat Narrows.  Ten GBCC members attended.

 

Roll Sessions, Michael Quinn:  Possible alternate location to Goucher College presented by Bill.  North Arundel Swim Center of Glen Burnie is a possibility as the price is comparable.  The club should not need additional insurance to use this facility.  Other board members need to look at site however.

 

Conservation, Chip Walsh:  Report of Gunpowder tire run presented.  Chip commented on his meeting with the Maryland DNR concerning the club’s Lower Gunpowder River takeout improvement project.  He also reported on the status of his grant application to fund that project.

 

Program, Kara Brown:  Kara Brown has recruited Mike Aranoff for the September General Membership Meeting which will be held on September 15.  Mike will make a presentation on his annual trip to the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho. 

 

Website, John Kemper:  Art and Tony are willing to assist John with the technical aspects of modernizing our current website.

 

Schedule:  John Kemper has volunteered to be the trip coordinator for the website.  August 21 has been finalized as the date for the annual Ohiopyle Falls Race on the Lower Youghiogheny.

 

Old Business:  The annual Club picnic was held July in Pasadena, Anne Arundel County.  Thanks again to Tony Allred who sponsored the event.

 

New Business:  An update on the Jones Falls release was given by Kara.  Due to the current construction going on in Robert E. Lee Park, it will not be possible to have a release this year.

 

A motion was made to reimburse members for food and beverages that are bought for club cleanups and other authorized service projects.  $30 for a ½ day event and $75 for a full day.  Motion was approved.

 

The Patuxent Cleanup has been rescheduled for this Fall.
